How much do you hate the goofy looking font used in the iPhone Notes app? John Gruber at Daring Fireball despises the ‘Marker Felt’ font enough to have come up with a hack that gets you classic, simple Helvetica instead.

The hack is definitely in the ‘Don’t try this at home’ category since it involves editing the MobileNotes binary in a hex editor.  But if you really, really hate that font, then check out these two posts at Daring Fireball:

Delete Marker Felt and let Arial replace it: http://daringfireball.net/2007/09/marker_felt_iphone

Binary edit to get Helvetica:

Oh, and keep in mind that whatever you do may be adversely affected by the impending update of course …

  1. Geez, Apple should’ve have this in the first place. Hopefully, the next update will include something like that.

Call me what you will … I like the font they used. I’d rather they used more fun fonts, but I also wish they would allow the users to choose.

One of my many issues with the iPhone… lack of end user choices. Which is why I really like Customize.

Wow, shocked that you like that one. I would much rather see a cleaner font for the Notes app. I think I will do the knock-back to Arial once update is done and all is (hopefully) good again …

Fun is my middle name, well not really. I really don’t mind the Felt font, but it’s just thick for my liking. The best thing would be to have options to use different font.

Heck, I like to use the comic font…

I like comic/fun fonts. I’m a fun guy.. You just haven’t figures that out yet.

No, you’re not fun, in fact scares me. ;)
