A digital wallet / password vault application for iPhone has been at or near the top of a lot of people’s iPHone Application Wish List for quite a while. And now there’s an early entry in this area.
It’s called Lockbox and it’s by nathanblack.org. (The only other project I could find for this person is iPhonelifecounter – an app to track your life total in Magic the Gathering and other TCG games).
Finally, the first version is out. It has the core basics – encryption, adding, editing, and removing items, viewing them, etc. Encryption is done via AES128. I used SSCrypto as my engine, with a bit of code cleanup and one bug fix so far 🙂 It uses libcrypto and libssl.
It’s great to finally see a password vault app come out. But … I’m not sure how warm and fuzzy to feel about a program of this nature from an unknown source.
Giving it a quick try anyway though – seems very basic (as is to be expected on a fist version). One quick bad thing I’ve noticed with it – it displays your password on an item’s screen – doesn’t have a Hide / Show type feature, which seems a bit naff.
Lockbox has not shown up on Installer yet, so you’ll need to install from the .pxl. Let us know what you think about this one, and we’ll update you if we learn more about the program.
