1.1.1 Assault: TUAW LiveBlogging ‘The Big iPhone 1.1.1 Hack’

This week has seen lots of (maybe premature) talk of the iPhone’s 1.1.1 update crumbling, i.e. getting abused by the best iPhone devs and hackers out there and bringing us closer to full-on jailbreaking of this firmware, which so many of us are wanting to see.

Last night there was some major progress made, as Erica Sadun of TUAW outlines:

Last night, iPhone hackers "dinopio" and "Edgan" brought 1.1.1 hacking into a new arena. By using symbolic links before doing a 1.1.1 upgrade, they were able to gain access to the entire 1.1.1 file tree.

And today, Erica is liveblogging while she attempts to duplicate their hack. A lot of Erica’s rundown is well over my non-programmer head, but it seems like pretty exciting stuff, and it’s nice to see at least some progress being made against 1.1.1.
