iPhone Web Apps Directory from Apple Coming Soon

It looks like Apple will be putting up a directory of web applications for iPhone on their site very soon. 9to5Mac posted details on this yesterday:

Apple will be unleashing this new webpage devoted to Webapps. Apple’s web team is gearing up to put the iPhone applications built with the Web 2.0 "SDK" on their new software page that will function in much the same way as the current software downloads page. In fact, it is likely that the two pages will be integrated.

I’m still wondering how useful this will end up being. There are already several good portals for finding web applications – Applists, which we posted about HERE, and Appleopolis, to name just a couple. I can’t see the Apple directory becoming the largest or most comprehensive if it will place any restrictions on which developers and apps can appear in it, or how closely the ‘Web 2.0 SDK’ has to have been followed in order to qualify.

I’m certainly keen to see this directory and try it out, but have a feeling I’d still use other apps portals more than this one. What do you think?  Would this be a real go-to site for you?
