RestaurantsLive.mobi offers a sort of video Yellow Pages for restaurants on the iPhone – although so far only for restaurants in California’s Bay Area (San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Beverly Hills etc.).
You choose a city and then browse through restaurants as you would expect in any guide of this type. But … as well as getting one-touch dialing options and driving directions to each place, you can also check out a little video overview of what they’ve got to offer.
This seems a very cool idea to me, and I’d love to see it extend to cover major cities everywhere. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then video is rapidly getting to be worth a hundred pictures in our thirst for fast, online information.
I can just picture this being a much quicker way to size up a place when I’m out with The Spouse and we’re trying to pick a new place to try. It can be tedious when you’ve both got to read through a restaurant review, look at pictures etc. This way you just sit back and watch a few clips and hopefully you pick your winner. Unfortunately it does not cover Austin yet.

If you’re in the Bay Area, you can even go give one of the spotlighted restaurants a whirl. Now when is Austin getting added???
