iToner 1.03 and SendSong – Custom Ringtones for Firmware 1.1.1

Nice to see new applications and methods for using custom ringtones on iPhone firmware 1.1.1 emerging.

We shared news last Sunday that iToner had a working beta that allowed custom ringtones to sync to iPhones running firmware 1.1.1 – and now the good people at Ambrosia Software have announced that iToner Version 1.03 is out and working with 1.1.1.

iToner is Mac only, no Windows version for now. If you’ve got a Mac, iToner provides a simple drag and drop method for syncing your custom ringtones over to your iPhone.  It does *not* require jailbreaking on your iPhone. iToner offers a trial version and costs $15 to purchase – details HERE.

If you have run one of the various jailbreak methods on your 1.1.1 iPhone, you might also want to try SendSong, one of Erica Sadun’s iPhone apps, which has just been updated for use with 1.1.1. SendSong will allow ysendsong1ou to browse your iPhone’s music library, select a song, play it back, send it by email or assign it to a ringtone.

The current release of SendSong is a very early one, and Erica advises that:

To say that this release is a little flakey is an understatement. Give it a try and report back.

The browsing and emailing of songs with SendSong work nicely and easily. The ringtones side of things requires a bit more effort for now. Songs need to be in .M4a format and there appear to be some issues with naming convention on the files, and additional steps required to make the one-click ‘Send To Ringtones’ feature work consistently. See this ModMyiPhone forum thread for details and help on getting your ringtones going.
