So … a little more evidence of just how popular hacking the iPhone to allow 3rd party applications has become. iPhone Atlas has been told by one of the lead developers of AppSnapp, Nicholas “Drudge” Penree, – that there application has been used 144,000 times in its first 3 days, and that they estimate that equates to about 100,000 devices.
Those are pretty big numbers, especially considering that a large number of users had already used another jailbreak method prior to this one being released.
If you’ve not yet heard of AppSnapp, it is the latest, greatest ‘one-touch’ method for ‘jailbreaking’ iPhones running firmware 1.1.1. Jailbreaking allows read/write access to the file system (which in turn enables you to install applications), and the AppSnapp script also puts the Installer.app program on your device. Installer is used for very easy searching, selecting, and installing of 3rd party applications.
The iPhone Atlas post also points out that the developers are reporting very light donations so far in comparison to the likely number of installs – at around $1,500 to date. So if you use this method, you may want to show your appreciation for the people who are working so hard to make all of this easier for all of us.
If you want to use the new AppSnapp method, you need to visit jailbreakme.com from your iPhone (preferably on a wireless connection) and follow the instructions provided there. See HERE for a little further guidance on the process.
