AT&T Adds International Flat-Rate Data Plans for iPhone

Say goodbye to those gigantic international data roaming fees. AT&T has introduced 2 new flat-rate data plans. The plans are as follows:

For heavy internet and mail users there is a $60 plan which offers 50MB of data per month in 29 Asian and European countries.

For the more casual user there is a $25, 20MB plan.

These new plans are in response to the absolutely huge roaming fees iPhone users were racking up while roaming around the world. iPhone will seek new messages in the background when roaming, and this can get costly if you’re out-of-country on an international network. Good news though… the September iPhone software update allows iPhone users to disable data roaming.

I give AT&T two thumbs up on these new plans. Insane roaming charges and skyrocketing monthly bills was a big concern for many business-types and AT&T has addressed that accordingly. Although iPhone does not fit into the stereotypical mold of the ‘business phone’, perhaps AT&T is realizing that iPhone is breaking the ‘business phone’ mold and therefore wants to make as many business people as happy as they can…
