Visto Mobile has announced that it’s now offering secure access from the iPhone to Exchange and Lotus Notes / Domino servers, without any need to install software on the iPhone itself. ![]()
This solution does require you to install Visto Mobile Desktop software on your PC, and for that PC to be turned on in order for mail to flow.
Visto’s offering addresses security concerns that IT departments may have with allowing access to corporate mail from iPhones – and highlights the following benefits in this area:
- No corporate data is ever stored outside your company’s firewall
- Your username and password are never stored or used outside the firewall
- Our end-to-end SSL encryption provides security throughout the transmission process
Visto Mobile is not cheap. Single users need to pay a one-time fee of $39 and $10 per month. Companies need to fork out $799 plus $199 per year plus $10 per month per user.
You can try out the Visto Mobile service before buying – they offer a 60 day free trial (for a limited time apparently), which does not even require billing information until you’re ready to sign up, which is nice to see.
It will be very interesting to see how iPXSync’s solution for Exchange sync – due out any minute – compares to Visto Mobile. They have certainly talked about offering a substantially lower monthly rate for individual users.
