There are already queues forming outside Apple’s Regent Street store in London – as there’s now less than 24 hours until the iPhone launches in the UK and Germany.
I haven’t see that much hoopla over the launch in Germany, but there is just tons of stuff on the UK’s reaction to and anticipation of the iPhone.
The Guardian is doing a very thorough, mutli-part review of the UK iPhone – breaking their coverage down into: exterior and use as a mobile phone; internet; and listening to music so far. And they like it – see HERE for the latest chapter of their review, and links to the other parts.
One other item to do with the UK launch that caught my interest:
Behind The Scenes on The British iPhone Deal – O2’s CEO talks about how they got their deal with Apple done, impressions of Steve Jobs etc.
And here’s some of the details for tomorrow’s launch:
On sale at more than 1,300 Apple, O2, and Carphone Warehouse retail locations (limit 2 per person)
- Free workshops Saturday morning at Apple locations
- "Hundreds" of new iPhone specialists hired and trained at O2
- £269 (inc VAT) with 18 month contract
- Three iPhone tariffs available starting at £35 — including free unlimited data use
- Free unlimited use of The Cloud WiFi at 7,500 UK locations
One sad thing for many UK buyers is that they’re apparently going to be ‘in jail’ for a while with the new 1.1.2 firmware installed, which will not allow the installation of any 3rd party applications.
So … not very long to go at all now – unless you’re in line outside a store, in which case time is probably not moving real quick. 6:02pm is kickoff time in the UK tomorrow.
Good luck if you are in line – and congrats to all who manage to get hold of one …
