The Tilt’s Today screen reminds me why I don’t miss Windows Mobile
I’ve used Windows Mobile devices for many years, and still own a couple – including a Cingular 8525 (HTC TyTN), the ‘baby brother’ of the HTC TyTN2 or AT&T Tilt.
That’s a screencap above from a demo video over at Mobility Site, on customizing the Tilt’s Today (home) screen.
The Tilt is a hugely capable and hot device – its specs are at or near the very top for Windows Mobile devices. Before the iPhone arrived, I would’ve been lining up to ‘trade in’ my 8525 for a Tilt.
But … I look at that Today screen now and I cringe. The screen itself seems tiny to me, and it looks way too busy / crowded with too many little items. You need that stylus that’s shown because so many of the little program and other icons are damn near impossible to tap with just a finger or thumb.
Basically, the screen’s too small and the home screen navigation is way too clumsy after using the iPhone. And that’s with a bunch of 3rd party stuff in use to make the layout and navigation much better!
Until there are Windows Mobile devices that come close to the overall design elegance of the iPhone, and offer large screens, and until that user interface gets a huge overhaul, I just can’t see myself missing Windows Mobile …
