That has been 8 hours after the stores opened. The fact that they made a press release about this shows, that T-Mobile is pretty excited about the numbers,

Of course this beeing Germany no big lines formed at the stores and T-Mobile made it clear that they have plenty available. The launch party in Cologne was a success. One store in Germany started selling iPhones at 1 minute after midnight on friday and they sold more than 400 iPhones.

I wasn’t there, but I was among the first in the morning, when I got to the T-Punkt at 8 a.m. With me were 5 other customers waiting for the iPhone. All through the day people bought iPhones at the T-Mobile stores.

So I think it was a good start and I am happy to have my iPhone.

BTW: On average, every day 70.000 mobile phones get sold in Germany (most of them subsidized).
