I purchased the iPhone on June 29, 2007. Didn’t know there would be an iPod Touch. If I had, I might have waited for a 3G iPhone. I am certain to upgrade to a 3G version when it appears in 2008. Apple will have fun$ selling lots of amazing iPod Touches to those who like their cell phones/contracts and may lure a lot, lot more people to the party when their 3G version is ready.

I has pretty much the same reaction to the iPhone (although I didn’t go out and buy the Touch!) when I tried it for the first time last week. Safari was a major surprise – I didn’t think it could be as good, or as intuitive, as people had claimed it was. End result: I was furious it didn’t have 3G, that’s the HUGE deal-breaker for me. Storage I can live with, all the Bluetooth profiles that are missing are annoying but I could cope without, but I know I’d forever be frustrated having an awesome browser but craptastic old-gen speeds.

Apple have really, really dropped the ball. Like you say, give the option to shut off the 3G if battery life is such an issue. I’d rather be recharging it every night and have the choice.
