The Los Angeles Times now has an iPhone optimized site that has just showed up as a Staff Pick in the Apple Web Apps directory.  LATimes.com offers the full range of news you’d expect – headlines, entertainmlatimes2ent, sports, weather and all the rest.

It’s good to see the number of leading news titles with iPhone optimized sites growing.  I’m not an LA Times reader, but I still like knowing  that there’s a good selection of news titles to choose from when you’ve got a few minutes to catch up on what’s happening in the world (or just read the sports section).

The LA Times looks pretty good on the iPhone – with clear navigation to all the main news topic areas and clean page layouts.  It’s not as cleverly done as the Wall Street Journal though – I think that is still my favorite iPhone optimized news site, with the most and best features and a very elegant layout.

You can get your LA Times news on the iPhone at:

Now where’s the Austin-American Statesman for iPhone???
