These last couple of weeks there seems to be some real momentum on new and updated iPhone apps, and lots of very impressive ones at that. Here’s two that have cropped up in the last day or so that promise some pretty killer functionality:
File download plugin for Mobile Safari – this one was developed by hachu (a Hackint0sh forum member) and provides the ability to download files from within the Mobile Safari browser. That’s a huge wish list item for lots of folks. Originally the plugin just handled .zip / .tar archive type files, but there are now instructions around for increasing the range of file types, to include, for example, MP3 files – slick! As a big added bonus as a result of this one, Erica Sadun has update her SendFile app to search and see the ~/do
wnloads directory where the plugin stores its files. See THIS THREAD at Hackint0sh forums for download details and tons of advice on usage.
Beginnings of Wireless Sync for the iPhone – iPhone iSync is a GUI implementation of an rsync-based folder synchronization tool that works with WiFi. It will sync a folder on a Mac to an iPhone/iPod touch over the wireless network. Its in its very early development stages, is being updated frequently, and sounds very ambitious and promising. It’s mac only for now, and you can get all the details on it at its Google Code Page entry HERE.
I haven’t had a chance to try either of these out yet – so if you have, as always, we’d love to hear your thoughts!
Here’s hoping this little wave of new apps momentum lasts a good while, and even more importantly that all of these great developers out there get embraced properly by Apple when the SDK finally arrives …
