For those of us in Canada purchasing iPhones and shipping them up north of the border, a reliable 1.1.2 unlock would be nice!
I’ve been doing some looking into the matter, and while it appears there are a couple of solutions out there, none seem to be reliable and proven at the moment. Everything is untested, including this so-called unlock from tuaw.
I’d be reluctant to try any so-called 1.1.2 unlocks at this point as I sure wouldn’t want a ‘brick’ on my hands!
Apparently all iPhones shipped from week 45 of production and after have firmware 1.1.2 installed. How do you check this? Look at the serial number on the back of your iPhone. The 4th and 5th digits give the week of production. Another way to tell is if the activation screen has the iTunes icon and connection cable on the screen when you start it up. Previous versions did not have this.
At any rate if anyone out there has heard of a 1.1.2 unlock that works time after time we would like to hear about it!
