More iPhone Exchange Support – Now That Would Be Nice …

Apple Insider has a report up today speculating that greater Exchange email / syncing support for the iPhone may be coming soon.  The report is based on some of the specs of an Apple job ad – for an Exchange test / sync engineer.

Here’s an excerpt from the job posting:

"You will join a dynamic team responsible for qualifying the latest iPhone products … Your focus will be testing Exchange and Outlook functionality with Apple’s innovative new phone."

So far the iPhone’s ability to work with Exchange is very limited.  Your company or Hosted Exchange provider needs to allow IMAP to be enabled (which many corporates don’t due to security concerns) in order to use an Exchange email account with the in-built iPhone mail client, otherwise you are limited to trying to get Outlook Web Access to work. 

It would be great to see some more Exchange / ActiveSync support – so that mail, calendars, and contacts could be synced with an Exchange account.  And of course Exchange support would make the iPhone a lot more attractive for a lot of ‘business users’ who have been shying away because this feature is not there yet.

So if we could vote for rumors to help them come true, I’d vote for this one …
