Skipping The Next Generation iPhone- One Friend’s Thoughts

Out with a friend last night we got to talking about the upcoming 3g iPhone. When I said I would be first in line he asked me why. And this coming from a guy who stood in line on iPhone release day!

His argument for waiting until version 3…

– There is no way with current technology a 3g phone will get anywhere near the battery life. The high speed is not worth the potential battery life drop.  (I am beyond happy with the run time on my iPhone. )

– Even with Edge the  current iPhone browses pretty darn well  He finds Edge far less lacking than he expected.  (I couldn’t agree more)

– The next iPhone will likely be of a similar form factor while the 3rd gen will be thinner and that makes the 3g more a half generation step than a new iPhone.  (my comment- like he knows what the next iPhone will look like? Besides, it is not like the current iPhone is portly.)

He made some interesting points, and the iPhone is certainly the first device in a long time which didn’t have me looking for my next device within a few weeks, but still… 3g sounds pretty nice.

So here are my two questions …

A. How eager are you to get the 3g version when it is released?
1. 3g… I don’t need no stinkin 3g
2. Maybe, we’ll see what else it comes with
3. Where do I line up?

B. With rumors abounding as MacWorld draws near… Which possible device interests you most?
1. 3g iPhone
2. An ultralight MacBook
3. A tablet-esk PDA double or triple sized iPhone/iPhone touch
