CorePlayer Coming to iPhone …. WHY????

Back in my Windows Mobile days CorePlayer was among my favorite media players. It ran rings around the native OS media player and was excellent in its own right, as well. It actually allowed my early Pocket PCs to become decent music players and PMPs. Now word comes out of CES (no, I’m not there… maybe next year??) that CorePlayer will be coming to iPhone. And the only thing I want to know is… why? coreplayer_thumb

Why port a program that solved so many issues with Windows Mobile when the native media player on the iPhone is superb? Sure, the iPod on the iPhone doesn’t support a huge number of formats but it is an excellent media player and it is rock solid. In my WM days it was always touch and go if a video or music track would actually play while with the iPhone if it syncs it will play.

I’m not knocking CorePlayer– it is an excellent program. But this just strikes me as a case of “one paradigm shift forward….. one step back into old habits”.
