Wired Magazine Reveals The Little-Known Story of the Purple 2 aka the iPhone
This month’s Wired Magazine has a remarkable article about the early days of the iPhone. The story is one of trials and tribulations, drama, and crisis, back room deals and and critical failures. All of which led to the announcement just one year ago of our favorite consumer electronics device, the iPhon
e.
It is an amazing read during which I learned that:
a – the development of the iPhone started far earlier than most of us ever thought
b – Jobs knew the Motorola Rokr (the first iTunes enabled phone) was a flop before the first one even sold
c – the iPhone could just have easily been running Linux as it is OSX– just like the MIDs being showcased at CES!
d – Jobs and co were concerned enough about cellphone radiation that they built models of human heads upon which to make measurements.
e – the secret name for the iPhone was the Purple2 – (WTF!!!!)
f – the damn thing cost over $150 million to develop.
And worth every penny I might add!!!
