Sunset is a first-person role playing game for iPhone and iPod touch. The game tells the story of you, as a security guard, saving a research facility from an alien invasion. No, it’s not the most original plot ever conceived, but that’s hardly the point of this game. The point is to push the limits of what Mobile Safari can do as much as possible, and to have fun doing it.
Sunset looks pretty amazing on Mobile Safari. I definitely haven’t seen anything else that tries anything this ambitious within a web app.
In Safari, it lags a bit as you’d expect on movement and carrying out actions, but it looks fun to spend a while with. I’ve only spent a few minutes with it so far, but it offers 3D looks, gameplay where you run around (or move very slowly and clumsily around in my case), and kill or be killed I guess. It’s even supposed to have an ability to save and reload games for you in case the Safari browser crashes.
The game was created by Donald Hays, and all the graphics are said to be homemade as well. Nice work. Hope Donald’s getting an early copy of the Apple SDK.
