iPhone 1.1.3 Downgrade! And yes – it works – with a little help from BigBoss

So – here’s the thing. We all wanted a 1.1.3 upgrade with a bunch of new “stuff” and we all wanted to get it on our iPhones immediately. Ok, so maybe that’s an exaggeration, but you get the idea. Maybe you installed it, maybe you didn’t. If you didn’t this may not be for you – but if you’re like me and you just couldn’t resist, only to find out it isn’t all that and a bag of chips – you’ll be happy to know some people a heck of a lot smarter than me have figured out how to get you back to 1.1.1 WITH a working modem firmware (the phone works). Earlier, I came across a post at iPhone Alley and decided to give it a go. I missed my wallpaper.

Reality Check. If updating your iPhone is a tough gig for you – DO NOT attempt this. If you think you can blame me (or any of the other sources) when something goes wrong – DO NOT attempt this. You break it, you buy it.

Keep on reading … I’ve got a couple tips that might keep you from pulling your hair out.

So – first things first – charge up your iPhone. You’re going to spend some time disconnected and while its not a long stretch of time having you battery crap out is going to make your life bad.

Next – head on over to HackThatPhone and start following the instructions. I am however going to mention a couple things in this process that might snag a couple people.

1. When you download iBrickr – worry not that it hasn’t been updated in a long time. It still works for what you need it for. Also it won’t automatically get the phone out of DFU. You need to tell it to reboot the phone. Note: If the screen goes green – restore 1.1.1 again. Happened to me… will likely happen to you.

2. On Step 4 … I found out the hard way that the script wasn’t working. If you get all the way through the script and find out your Modem is NOT at 03.14.08_G and you notice a big ERROR: Failed to download .FPS or something to that effect – the script didn’t work. Here’s where I started to get a little worried and where _BigBoss_ came to the rescue. The script that you downloaded (Downgrade Baseband #4) didn’t work for me – and if you get that download error – it didn’t work for you either.

So – uninstall that package (Downgrade Baseband #4) then add the following source to the installer: http://sleepers.net/iphonerepo – and install the 1.1.3 –> 1.0.2 Downgrade package from the Unlock that iPhone Category.

Then go back to the iPhone and cd to /usr/bin and re-run restorebb. That should complete successfully. Check the modem firmware to be sure then run the virginize script.

Restore 1.1.1 and jailbreak – then update to 1.1.2 should you so desire.

BIG THANKS to _BigBoss_ Saved me a ton of heartache! Also thanks to everyone else in the efnet.org #iphone channel for not treating me like a moron for having updated.
