iPhone Firmware Update 1.1.3 Most Windows Mobile-like

And that ain’t a compliment to either one

Sorry for the jab at WM but that was my thought numerous times over the past few days. When I was using Windows Mobile I resetbutton1got used to having the phone lock up and things work right for a while and then suddenly require a hard reset.

After adding new software I would discover conflicts that required immediate removal but, even after the software was removed issues would remain. I can’t tell you the number of times I had to return my phone to factory settings and rebuild it to my specifications. It was just the "price of doing business" and since WM was the best platform for me at the time I  sucked it up and kept going.

The iPhone’s rock solid stability was one of the many things that made it a winner for me. It never crashed. I never had to reset it. And as I wrote in an earlier post, I was even able to rely upon it as my morning alarm clock. IT… JUST…. WORKED!

Unfortunately the past tense of "WORKED" is the operative word. Since I upgraded to 1.1.3 it seems a bit like "deja vu all over again". I have had the phone lock up two or three times. I have suddenly found the touch screen unresponsive until I rebooted. I have found emails that I had already read registering as unread. Mail seems to be trying to pull down new messages forever before they appear. Safari has crashed often. And, unfortunately, the list goes on.

While it is nowhere near as unstable as some of my Windows Mobile devices, it is not as solid as the phone I bought in August. And if this is what is happening with Apple’s upgrade (downgrade???) I am becoming just a bit worried about the impact that 3rd party apps might have.

When I was a kid I had an Aunt Esther who couldn’t wear a watch. For some reason no matter whose watch it was, when she wore it, it stopped working within a couple of days. It wasn’t the watch, it was her.  Is it just me or are others having 1.1.3 issues similar to mine?  If so, I would be interested to hear what they are.
