Apple Has a ‘Maybe It’ll Work’ Fix for SMS In Wrong Order Problems

Problems with text messages appearing in the wrong order has been one of the biggest issues with the iPhone’s latest 1.1.3 firmware update – and has affected both phones that are jailbroken and those that are not.

Apple has now posted a support document detailing a possible fix for this problem.  The support doc states that the issue can occur when the iPhone’s date and time gets out of sync with the carrier’s network time.

So, the suggested fix is:

Make sure iPhone is setup to receive the network time. Choose General > Date & Time and turn Set Automatically to ON.

Easy enough – although the document then goes on to let you know that:

Note that in some locations, network time may not be available and in some cases, you may not see this option.

And then also lets you know that even if you are able to make the settings change, the issue may not be completely resolved:

If the issue continues after turning this setting on, the issue may be occurring because messages are being sent in quick succession (more common if the messages consist of only a few short words).

A more definitive fix (via an update) is thought to be in the works.
