PimpMyNews – Make Playlists & Custom Podcasts of Your Favorite Sites for the iPhone

I recently discovered and posted about PimpMyNews – a great service for listening to your favorite news and blog sites via any browser, and rating stories and sharing them as well.

Now PimpMyNews has added a couple of very cool new features:  the ability to create a playlist that is accessible to you on the iPhone and iPod Touch, and to have your playlist automatically compiled into a daily podcast.

Getting these features going is easy – you just sign up (for free) at PimpMyNews on your PC and go through a quick wizard to select your Playlist.  You can choose from a number of pre-made FastPaks that cover various topic areas, like SportsAholic, Movies & TV, GadgetGuru, and lots of others; or you can skip the pre-mades and browse all the topic areas and select each individual site you want to add to your Playlist.  The Playlist can contain up to 10 sites for now – hopefully this number will be expanded in future.

I love gadget sites – so most of the sites on my playlist are tech or gadget related.  PimpMyNews’ categories cater for all sorts of interestsPMN1 though – there are sections for business, politics, celebs, world news, US news, and lots more.

So you’ll have your Playlist created in a very few minutes – and you can work with it on your iPhone or Touch as soon as you’ve got it setup.

The new feature I was most impressed with tonight though is the ability to create your own personalized daily podcast based on your playlist with just a few clicks.  Say yes to a wizard that asks if you’d like to have a daily podcast made, and the wizard lets you know the first episode should be available in around 15 minutes and jumps you out to iTunes to subscribe to it.

I found that in even less than 10 minutes I was already subscribed to my custom podcast via MobileCast and listening to the first daily episode!  So now I can kick back and listen to my own compilation of daily news items from my 10 Playlist sites – very, very nice.

Now you can listen to our news now on PimpMyNews too – we’re under the Technology > Apple section – hopefully some of you will add us to your playlists and personalized podcasts 🙂
