Hacked iPhones Are More Durable!

The man, Mike Beauchamp, left his iPhone on the trunk of his car while changing jackets. Like people who leave cups of coffee on top of their cars, he forgot about it and got back on the highway. Beauchamp turned around to collect the iPhone after he realized it was missing, but as he pulled over and was trying to get to his precious, it was hit by an 18-wheeler and thrown in the grass. As you can see, the device isn’t in what we would call great shape (and even has a few dead areas on the multi-touch display in addition to the scratches), but it’s still working fine otherwise.

This story has been floating round the web for quite a little while now, but over the last couple days it’s been covered by Engadget and several others, so it seems likely to be true (or one heck of a determined hoax).

Apparently, according to the beat-up phone’s owner, Apple are even considering using it in a commercial.

I was looking at the owner’s Flickr set and couldn’t help but notice the decidedly non-stock appearance of the battered iPhone.  Wonder how that fits in with the possible new Apple ad appearance.  Anyway, I think this is very clear proof that hacked iPhones are much tougher than stock! 🙂
