Campfire is a real-time group chat application for from 37 signals, the makers of several leading online apps, including Basecamp, Highrise, and Ta-Da List, an iPhone to-do list program.

They’ve just recently added an iPhone optimized version of the Campfire app, and Dan and I had a chance to give it a quick trial run a few nights ago.

Campfire worked well for us – especially once I typed in the URL correctly (had been trying with no luck to go to campfire.com, when it needed to be campfirenow.com).  It has as simple but pretty effective iPhone interface.

You can use Campfire free for any number of members, but with a limit of four simultaneous chatters – for more than four you can upgrade to one of their pretty reasonably priced paid plans that start at $12 per month.
