Flytunes on iPhone – Disappointing?

Flytunes for iPhone flytunes3

After all the hype and waiting, I got a Flytunes invite a couple weeks back (thanks iPhoneTony at EIC!) and have been using it on and off since then.

Flytunes set some pretty lofty expectations leading up to its launch – here’s its potted description on the iPhone Application List for example:

FlyTunes offers you a music experience that’s better than satellite radio, offering access to thousands of high quality music channels that you can personalize and enjoy on your iPhone any time, anywhere you go, without limitations and without fees.

I’d have to say that so far, Flytunes is OK and does provide access to a god number of stations, but like our friend over at the RMTWRKR blog, I find myself pretty disappointed with it overall – and for pretty much the same reasons.  Where’s the ability to really personalize what you listen to?  Or even some good stuff going on in the player – but that’s very vanilla and bland at the moment.

Presumably Flytunes has a little more up its sleeve in future versions – but for now, I don’t find it very compelling.

How about you all?  Are you using / enjoying Flytunes?

For those who haven’t seen it yet, you can give it a look at:
