What i mean by that is, change is normal and nothing we can stop. Its going to happen wether you like it or not. I think everybody has two choices, you can except the change and move on being open minded or you can bitch and stay where you are and be left behind like some of are parents who never owned a computer or just flat out did shit the old way. I don’t think blu-ray is a substantial change but it is nice. I have a ps3 and i love where everythings going tech. wise. I dont have an hdtv yet but have seen what they look like and if people don’t like that they don’t like themselves. Except LCDs i think they look alittle fake cause u can see peoples pores and imperfections like there under a spot light like when bein interigated. I wish companys would just try to go for the more realistic look like outside, but oh well you get what you get.

Personally, I think most Hollywood movies these days are worth only VHS and a low-res CRT picture.

I would rather pay a couple $ more for blu-ray than a standard DVD. The question should be why are new DVD releases still so expensive when compared to a new release blu-ray.

I use a Samsung OTA HD receiver for free HD TV, usually 720p, and it’s quite good as well. I’ve never had cable of satellite.

It’s not likely that I’m going to shell out the dollars to buy a BluRay player and the expensive discs, particularly for something I’m going to watch once or twice. The Apple TV HD experience is not optimal, yet, but it holds much more promise than the traditional captive model practiced by those who would take us from DVD to BD. BD is an old tech model in a pretty package in my mind. we’ve got to think different.

As for the neocon fascist ramblings of George Bush’s propaganda writer, Don, your cultural and social critiques are weak and meaningless. Nice play on the fear-mongering in the last two ‘graphs, though.

Yes, I believe this 100% And yet, to my trained ears, the difference in quality between a low bit-rate MP3 and a higher bit-rate recording, played through a high quality sound system, is SO VERY OBVIOUS.

The result of the mass acceptance of lower quality–your attitude–is everywhere. We accept low-quality, mass marketed, drive-through food. We accept books where the master was created on a 300 dpi laser rather than a high resolution imagesetter.

And as one reviewer put it, we accept MS Windows not because it is good, but because it is good enough.

Your easy acceptance of what is second rate is common. We accept second-rate food, entertainment, and politics. We accept second-rate armaments for our soldiers. Instead of demanding excellence, we simply accept something because it is “good enough.”

I doubt if any foreign government will ever successfully invade and take over the U.S.A. But I see the distinct possibility that we will let demagogues take over and bring fascism to the U.S. Why? It’s not as good as freedom and democracy, but people will have attitudes like yours–it’s good enough.

I don’t recommend replacing your DVDs with Blu-rays yet– they’re way too expensive. But I don’t think I’d buy a new DVD again. If the Blu-ray is reasonably priced I’ll buy that, if not, I’ll wait.
