Another SDK Rumor – And It’s Not a Good One

There’s a week to go before Apple’s commitment to release the iPhone Software Developers Kit in February runs out of room. I’m hearing from one source that its going to be late. I’m not yet hearing any reasons why, and it’s sounding like the official release date could slide by anywhere from one to three weeks.

That’s the latest word from Arik Hesseldahl at Business Week, who also  reminds us that they were the ones who first broke the news back in October that Apple would be releasing an SDK, a day before it was announced.

So … that sounds ominous, and other folks are also pointing out that there’s been no announcement of an event from Apple, with less than seven days to go until the end of the month and the SDK’s promised arrival.  Then again, seems like Apple can say there’s an event tomorrow and Steve’s going to speak, and they’ll fill a hall, sites will liveblog it, and we’ll all sit around refreshing our screens 7,000 times in 30 minutes.

Also, the SDK could just be released with no event to mark the occasion of course.  No event would seem to suggest no shiny, new apps ready to roll though.

Thankfully, there’s only 6 days to go now, and we’ll see one way or the other.  If there is a delay, I think it will be lame and embarassing for Apple, and I hope it is not more than a few weeks.

Oh, and one thing I do know for sure – I’m very happy to be running a jailbroken phone and seeing new apps appear just about daily, while waiting on the SDK and sizing up all these rumors …
