We already know that lots of former Palm Treo users have switched
over to the iPhone in the last several months. For all those former Treo users, and for many others who may have used Palm devices and enjoyed Palm apps somewhere in the past, the prospect of running Palm apps on the iPhone would be a BIG deal.
Well … some potentially good news on this front. The folks who make StyleTap, the very popular platform for running Palm OS applications on Windows Mobile, have got a video showing an ‘experimental’ version of StyleTap running on an iPod Touch.
The video shows several apps running quite quickly and smoothly – although I still find it a little goofy to see them floating in their little square Palm-sized screen area on a much bigger screen.
StyleTap’s site makes it very clear that this is just experimental at the moment, no promises:
This is an EXPERIMENTAL version – it is NOT a product, nor is its presence here a commitment of any kind, express or implied, that StyleTap Inc. will ever release an official version of StyleTap CrossPlatform for Apple iPhone or iPod Touch.
Personally, I miss more Windows Mobile apps than Palm ones – as I’ve used many more WM devices over the years – but if this were to come off, I imagine it would make a whole lot of people happy, and would also provide an ‘instant’ pool of thousands of additional apps.
You can see the experimental version in action HERE …
