That’s my understanding anyway – it is not physically capable of doing 3G …

Maybe one your readers has the answer. When the 3G iPhone is released, is that a new model due to the fact it has a different radio technology within the phone? OR is it a firmware upgrade?

If its the latter, then if I buy an iPhone today, it would mean whenever the 3G release came, I wouldn’t have to buy a new model. It would be “included” in the 2.5G of today and just “unlocked” later on.

This sort of scenario happened with the MacBook Pro laptop. We found out that the WiFi was actually n capable and we just had to enable it.

Hope someone with more 3G knowledge can shed some light here.

But I’ve got a device upgrade coming in June/July when its time to renew my contract (which I know I will). The big question is … what device to buy, to sit on the shelf while my iPhone comes along with me.

I know one thing for sure – we will all keep talking and speculating on this subject an enormous amount between here and … whenever they hit us with an announcement. I’d be surprised if they don’t get it out for the holiday season this year at least though …
