If the iPhone’s Maps application is not locating you very accurately, Apple is now recommending that you submit your WiFi information to Skyhook.
Skyhook is the service that’s used by the iPhone’s faux-GPS function, so this advice has been out there for some time, but now we have an Apple Support Document conveying it:
If you are using Wi-Fi on iPhone or iPod touch and you experience unexpected results when tapping the Location button in Maps, you can refer the respective wireless router administrator to the following URL to update information that Skyhook has about the wireless router’s information:
http://skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/submit_ap.php
The Skyhook submission form looks quick and easy, though you will need to know your WiFi router’s MAC address. If you’re not familiar with how to get that, see this article for some help.
I haven’t tried this as yet, since I already get located very well by the Maps app. If you try this out, let us know your results …
