GeoPedia is a new native app for the iPhone that blends all the information contained in Wikipedia with the iPhone’s location awareness and presents you with a stream of Wikipedia articles that are relevant to where you are.

Clever idea, and it seems to work well so far – as you can see in the screencaps above, it gave me some good articles relating not just to the city of Austin as a whole, but accurate and interesting in relation to my Southwest section of the city.  GeoPedia also requires zero configuration once you install it.  Just launch it and it determines your location and takes you to a Safari page with your articles of local interest – I like zero config programs!

There are a number of good ways to get quick details on local restaurants and businesses – from Google Maps to specialist applications like Earthcomber – but none that can provide the sort of comprehensive and historical overview that access to Wikipedia provides.

GeoPedia is meant to be available soon on Installer, but in the meantime you can download it from HERE for a manual install.
