I figure you can never have too many ways to get quick access to ‘the sum of all human knowledge’, so I’ve been trying out a new Wikipedia web application for the iPhone a little this morning.
Wikipedia – which really needs to be renamed to something a little less ripped from the original – provides two advantages for usage on the iPhone: formatting of pages to fit well on the iPhone screen with virtually no need to zoom in or out at all, and the ability to save a page for offline viewing.
Both these features work quite well on this app. You can really see the difference in terms of how easily readable a page is in the screencap at top left, as opposed to the view you get of the same page at the full Wikipedia.org site, on the right.
There are now a growing number of good options for Wikipedia access on the iPhone, including: Wikipedia.app, a native app that stores *all* of Wikipedia locally on the iPhone (last I heard this one required around 2.5GB of space) and iPodia, another web app which offers pretty much the same features as this new Wikipedia web app.
You can give the Wikipedia web app a try at the link below, and let us know what your favorite Wikipedia on iPhone solutions are ….
