Apple Insider has got a report up detailing some really *huge* predictions for the iPhone over the next year. The bold predictions from Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster are very encouraging for current and future iPhone owners, and those who want to upgrade of course.
Here are some of the highlights:
- The iPhone line will be extended and will include some lower-priced models
- The total sales of all iPhone models will combine for sales of 45 million units next year
- A 3G model to be introduced in the next 3-6 months
- A willingness on Apple’s part to vary their business model, and not insist on revenue sharing with all carriers, which is seen as a probable pr-requisite for getting the iPhone into China
- A drop in the Average Selling Price for iPhones from $489 in 2007 to $365 in 2008 to $314 in 2009.
That 45 million number looks just enormous. Part of Munster’s reasoning in being so bullish on iPhone growth is that the iPod line was slowly and steadily diversified, and the iPhone thus far has a much, much quicker ramp-up in sales figures than the iPod did at this stage of its history.
Here’s to hoping those forecasts are even close to being right. While I am most anxious to see a 3G model get launched, it would also be great to see some lower-priced models.
