Following some delays, the iPhone Dev Team has now published the Mac OS X edition of the PwnageTool. This tool is a hacking program for the iPhone that can unlock devices for third-party carriers and jailbreak them for native apps.
An interesting point here is that because the PwnageTool can execute unsigned code, it will apparently be able to function with any future iPhone firmware. So what does that mean you say? Well, it means you can start syncing your iPhone with the latest firmware via iTunes. The norm with iPhone hacking tools has been that once the firmware is upgraded, you can’t sync your device with iTunes unless you want your phone locked up again. I know, I’ve experienced this a few times after unlocking my iPhone with ZiPhone.
The Mac PwnageTool is a free 23MB download. Get it here. A Windows version is being tested and should be available within the next 24 hours.
