Firewire ? Only macheads are prown to owning devices that need firewire, most home users do not even know what it is and use USB.
Ethernet ? Normal home users do not have ethernet networks and have no clue what this one is either.
Battery not replaceable ? Most of us will have it plugged in the wall 90% of the time.
HD speed ? Put the stuff that needs to be fast on a USB key ! It’s probably the stuff you need to be able to access quickly on your faster primary system anyway so the right place IS a USB key.

It makes the wrong compromises for me. I use FireWire external hard drives, which won’t work with the Air, and I want SMALL and don’t care about thin. I would prefer a screen size between 7-10 inches. Not being able to carry and swap in a second battery is an insane decision for a travel laptop.

I’ve put a MBA to use, and quite honestly, it doesn’t cut it… for me.

I can see it being useful for my mom, but I’d never own one myself. Given one, I’d sell it and buy a juiced out MacBook.
