Pool – the billiards game for iPhone – has been updated to Version 2.0 today. It has added quite a few major new features, and has also now switched to a limited free version, full version only available via donation / activation model.
I’ve only tried the new version out for a few minutes (though I’ll get to know it real well tonight I’m sure) – so far the biggest new features are:
- There’s now a two-player option and play vs computer option
- There are Plus and Minus buttons at the top of the table that make it easier to fine-tune the angle when lining up your shot
- More options to choose from
- You can now go from with a game to the settings and main menu without having to exit out of the game itself
The free version of the game is now limited as follows:
- Allowed only 7 games a day (Two-player and vs. Computer modes)
- Save/Load option is disabled
- Match length is fixed to 1.
And the full set of features now includes:
- Single-player mode
- Two-player mode
- vs. Computer mode
- 8-Ball and 9-Ball games
- Autosave game on exit
- Easy cue direction and ball speed adjustment
- Two ball sizes (16 and 18 pixels)
- Fully customizable view and behavior
I’m not sure as yet on how much of a donation you need to make in order to have the game activated and all features made available. I’ve done a $1.00 donation just a while ago, and it looks as if that will get me activated – but I’ll update this later to confirm one way or the other.
Pool Version 2.0 is out on Installer now. If you get a chance to try it out, let us know what you think of the new features and the new limited / paid model …
UPDATE: My $1.00 contribution did get me an activation for the full product. I’m also happy to report I got a very fast and helpful response when there was an issue with my Paypal confirmation email address (my fault, not the developer’s). Have also had a chance to play a couple games in ‘Vs. Computer’ mode tonight and have been enjoying it mucho 🙂
