textReader – New iPhone Reader App for Text and Palm Doc Files

textReader iPhone app

textReader is a new, fairly basic eBook reader app for the iPhone.  It allows you to read large text files or text file formatted ebooks, as well as Palm doc (.pdb) files.

This is a ‘low frills’ sort of app that is not (in this version anyway) going to win your heart with slick features – but if you need an app that will load large text files quickly, and serve as a basic but perfectly usable ebook reader, then this may be a good choice.

textReader’s options and features are quite a bit more basic than Books (the first native iPhone ebook reader program).  For instance, to move through pages while reading, you cannot flick to scroll up or down through the book.  You need to tap once anywhere in the top half of a page to go back a page, or tap anywhere in the bottom half of a page to move to the next page – or use tap and hold to bring up a slider that I find a little over-sensitive and awkward to work with.

The program has just a small number of options to set – things like selecting the font and font size you’d like to use, and an ability to invert the text if you prefer reading on a black background.  It does remember where you left off in a book when you exit and come back into the program.

You need to manually add your text and .pdb books to the /var/mobile/Media/textReader folder in order for the app to be able to open them.

You’ll find textReader on Installer now, via the BigBoss source, which is:
