Liking The New Google Reader iPhone Beta

Google Reader iPhone Beta

The Google Reader team is still loving the iPhone (and many of them are using it, by the sounds of things), and tonight they’ve brought out a first beta of an iPhone specific version of it.

I’m a big user of Google Reader, on the desktop and on the iPhone -  using it heavily every day.  Using it on the iPhone was already a good experience, but this first iPhone specific beta has some quite nice improvements.

The biggest plus so far is that you can now do a lot more without needing to refresh the page – expand and collapse article summaries from the main list view, share or star an item, mark an item to be kept unread – all these can be done ‘in place’ within the main listing page and not require any full page refresh.  That’s a very practical and welcome change.

You can also now get your friends’ shared items and your notes (a recent  and welcome feature add on the main Google Reader app) whenGoogReadericon you go to the Feeds view. I like the ability to access these features a lot as well.

So first impressions of the new beta are very good, and it’s good to see Google continuing to crank out more good stuff for the iPhone. I’ve already swapped my bookmark and home screen weblcip to point at it.

You do not get automatically redirected to the new beta from the main Google Reader site, so you’ll need to visit the new URL below to give it a look:
