The WWDC Keynote is over. The biggest was the long-awaited announcement and launch of the iPhone 3G. I’m quite stoked about this.
The iPhone 3G is thinner, comes with a black or white plastic back, has solid metal buttons, the same great display and camera… and a much improved audio system.
With the device being 3G, expect faster data downloads, especially with Safari and Mail. In a comparison between the 3G and EDGE networks, Steve Jobs demonstrated a few downloads, with the 3G network putting EDGE to shame. The iPhone 3G will be approximately 2.8x faster than before.
Battery life is now much improved. You’ll get 300 hours of standby, and 2G talk-time now has up to 10 hours of battery life. You’ll also get 5-6 hours of high-speed browsing, 24 hours of audio and 7 hours of video.
GPS is now fully integrated into the iPhone! This was one of my must-haves…Mr. Jobs demonstrated within a google maps window, a pulsating red dot moving around the map as the iPhone moved location. Cool.
Even more exciting for countries around the world… is the new iPhone 3G will be launched in over 70 countries in the coming months… and it will be available in 22 countries by July 11th! Price points will be $199 USD for the 8GB model, and $299 for the 16GB model. These as I mentioned before will be available in white or black.
Very exciting stuff indeed. If you check your countries’ Apple site, chances are you will now see the iPhone 3G added to your Apple Store 🙂 While it won’t be availble for purchase yet, at least it is there…Hooray!
I’ll be doing a WWDC Roundup a little bit later compiling all of the news and announcements from today’s keynote… so stay tuned…
