My problems is that I upgraded my Iphone to version 3.0.1 and now it’s stuck in the activation screen but I don’t have the original sim card it came with because it was bought in London.

Does anybody know how to bypass the activation screen without the original sim? Or do I have to resort to buying an O2 sim from ebay? (O2 was original carrier but has been unlocked)

Thanks any ideas will be great

They don’t actually know yet if you can buy the iphone and walk away without a contract. The thing is that to get it anyway they ask for all that documents listed on apple.com…and if you’re not resident there’s no way to get it, unless they will sell it at that outrageous price i’ve red!
It is for sure overpriced…in Italy, were i leave, you can get it without a contract but u will have to pay 499 euros for the 8GB or 596 euros for the 16GB…it looks like that this awful price will be almost the same all around the world!

You have to Unlock it yourself, That is the whole point!

u could go to AT&T and buy it without a contract but u should pay 599$ for i-phone 8GB instead of 199$ , and 699$ for 16GB instead of 299$

I am looking forward to an unlocked, jailbroken iphone, imagine what orb will be like when you can watch any of your videos anywhere you are.

or being able to download any song using islisk anywhere you are.

@thpsrt4
For the 3g, you WILL have to sign a contract in order to walk away from the store with the phone…I suppose that if you’re willing to sign that contract, pay for one month of service, and then CANCEL your contract with AT&T for the cost of the early termination fee (could be around $300 if all of the subsidy amount rumors are correct) then you have the possibility of unlocking with ziPhone and using it on any carrier…

That actually is my position too, I don’t want to go with AT&Tm I won’t even use the phone in the same country !!! But I’ve read in many sites that AT&T will require you to sign a contract in the store before it unlocks ur iphone for you. The only way people found around this part, is to pay for ur first month of service,then terminate ur contract and pay an extra $175. It’s just outrageous, but given all the speculation around this is the best plan available now.

That’s the whole point of unlocking it. Durh?

For me, the point of unlocking was being able to take my phone abroad and use a local SIM instead of paying AT&Ts exorbitant roaming rates, and have a way to sell my 2G phone when the 3G is out – for those purposes, this tool is excellent…

So what about the fact that you have to sign an AT&T contract before you leave the AT&T store so that they would unlock the phone for you?
If you have a way to buy the iphone and make the service rep. unlock it without getting an AT&T plan, I’d really like to know how…
