eReader for iPhone In The Works

Ask for lists of most wanted iPhone App Store programs, and a really top ebook reader  app will feature an awful lot – and Fictionwise’s eReader is probably one of the big favorites among that group.

If you’re one of the many who would love to see eReader make it to the iPhone, there’s some very encouraging news obtained by James Kendrick over at jkOnTheRun over the weekend.  James contacted Fictionwise and got back word saying:

Apple released their SDK for iphone/itouch on March 6. We have two Mac development experts doing the work to make eReader function on the iphone/itouch right now. Apple will allow third party applications, like eReader, to be used by customers after the next iPhone/iTouch firmware update which is currently estimated to be released on June 30 and we expect to be done with our porting work at about the same time.

However, there is also a wild card in that Apple must approve of each and every application released for iphone/itouch, and we are currently seeking information about what the criteria are to qualify. We will certainly support these devices if we possibly can and Apple allows it.

Sounds promising.  It would sure be good to see one or more top notch ebook reader apps on App Store opening day, and eReader’s content library makes it a real prime candidate.  Here’s hoping they get everything coming together soon for Apple approvals and continued development …
