Even with all the great news last week on the new iPhone 3G and upcoming 2.0 software and the App Store, Apple and AT&T have still managed to keep a good few disappointment cards up their sleeves for the next generation of the wonder phone.
One of those that really comes as no big surprise is that AT&T is saying that there will be no tethering options available for the iPhone 3G, according to a recent iPhone Atlas report. No tethering means there is no way to use the iPhone as a makeshift modem for a laptop via its new speedier connections – at least not via any officially sanctioned methods.
Although this does not seem a shocker, it’s still a definite disappointer – as many (or even most) other 3G model phones offer this as an option via AT&T. (see this AT&T page for more details on tethering generally)
Personally, the tethering rate plans strike me as way too pricy for the level of usage I would get out of them, but it just seems an odd miss again to not offer it at all for the iPhone 3G.
