What’s Polar Bear Farm Got Cooking for The App Store?

PBFonTUAW

Polar Bear Farm are the developers of one of the most popular and huge ‘fill a gap’ jailbreak iPhone apps – the Search app that allowed for the contacts and calendar search the iPhone has been missing since the start (and won’t get until the 2.0 software hits).

TUAW managed to catch up with one of the company’s co-founders – Guy Horrocks – at WWDC and grab a quick video chat covering several good iPhone and apps development topics – like what he thought of the apps demo-ed at WWDC, and his impressions of the upcoming App Store environment.

It was quite interesting – and very encouraging! – to hear him mention that they have found Apple "very supportive" despite their jailbreak origins.  It seems like the Moo Cow Music guys are also now well received by Apple (as they made it onto the WWDC demo stage).  If teams like Moo Cow and PBF with big jailbreak backgrounds are getting equal / good treatment, that’s got to be a good thing – as a lot of these folks are the ones who have probably paved the way for a number of good things that will come down the App Store pipe in months to come.

One thing you won’t get any details on in the video clip is what apps Polar Bear have got planned for the App Store.  Now that Search’s functionality is finally to be added to the iPhone OS itself, and their Showtime video app is one that will not pass through App Store restrictions, the guys are apparently working on some exciting new things.  Their web site only has the briefest of teasers up right now, advising us to …

Keep an eye out for our new native iPhone applications when the App Store launches.

Given their past track record, there should be very cool things to come from the PBF guys.  I’ll definitely be looking forward to hearing more about what they’ve got coming up …
