If you’re a Friendfeed user, there’s a very nice new option out this week for working with it on the iPhone. The new FFtogo site provides an iPhone / mobile optimized version of Friendfeed – one that I’ve been enjoying using a lot so far.
Friendfeed’s own site is not bad at all on the iPhone, but FFtogo just offers a bigger-formatted, clean optimized UI for it that I prefer using so far. I just find links and things quicker to get to via this optimized site. The two screencaps above show the original Friendfeed site (on the left) and the FFtogo page on the right.
If you haven’t discovered Friendfeed yet, I’d heavily recommend giving it a look. I know we’re all more than a bit weary of hearing about more and more ‘social’ sort of sites and services, but Friendfeed is one that really offers a lot by way of simplifying and bringing together a number of others in one simple, neat package.
Sign up for Friendfeed is free, you don’t need any special software or client for it (though there are apps around if you want them) and you can use it quite effectively from within a normal browser.
Once you’re signed up, the idea is that you plugin a number of your other social sort of services to it (to let Friendfeed ‘talk’ to those) – like Twitter, Flickr, Google Reader, Last.fm, StumbleUpon, and lots of others – and then all your updates on those services get pulled straight into Friendfeed without any effort on your part. Shjare an item on Google Reader, it shows up straight away in Friendfeed. The same applies for Flickr photos you post, items you stumble in StumbleUpon, blog posts created on blog favorites you specify, and so on.
One of the other cool things about Friendfeed is that it’s a great venue for conversations, as you can choose to mark other folks shared items (of all kinds) as ‘liked’ and you can comment on them and get into nicely threaded conversations about any shared items that interest you.
