iPhone 2.0 Software Coming In Next Few Days?

Gizmodo has a report up today – citing sources in ‘Cupertino’s software development effort’ – saying that it is ‘tentative’ but ‘highly probable’ that a final version of iPhone 2.0 software will be ready this Friday, June 27th.

The 2.0 Golden Master copy would be an ‘internal’ sort of release to developers, but might also mean that the software is ready to go on iTunes when Apple wants to pull the trigger.  If 2.0 does come out Friday or thereabouts, that would meet the original deadline announced at Apple’s SDK launch event, of a release in June, rather than the ‘early July’ window that Steve Jobs mentioned at the WWDC keynote event.

Friday’s date of 6/27 had been the subject of some feverish rumors right after Jobs’s speech as a possible 2.0 release date, due to an Apple Australia page that showed June 27th as an App Store opening date before being taken down.

Gizmodo also mentions that the Dev Team "has confirmed they are working hard cracking the latest build, getting ready for the pwnage of the final release."  Good news for all who want to be able to grab the 2.0 update AND keep their jailbreaking options open.

All I can say as far as a possible June 27th (or 28th / 29th / anywhere close to that) is YES PLEASE.  Bring it on, sooner rather than later.  I am much more excited about the 2.0 update and the App Store than I am even about the iPhone 3G, and really would like to see the new software by around yesterday 🙂
