iDay iPhone Warranties Running Out

If you bought your iPhone on the original launch day, then your warranty coverage is set to expire in just a few more days (on June 29).
If you’re keeping your V1 phone though, you can choose to purchase extended AppleCare coverage for it, for $69.95. Here’s part of the description of what that gets you:
The AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone extends your repair coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone.(2) Whether you use iPhone with a Mac or a PC, just one phone call can help resolve most issues.
Should your iPhone need service under the plan, Apple-authorized technicians will repair it or provide a replacement using genuine Apple parts.
My current plan is to keep the V1 iPhone and see if my wife will take it over, so I may think about getting this coverage. How about you all – planning to make use of this if keeping your current iPhone?

I bought my iPhone apple care with the early buyers rebates apple sent out… So ok set
The AppleCare must be activated BEFORE the initial warranty expires. If you ordered it tonight (6/26/08), you’d be lucky to get it activated by by 7/1. You might be able to get it back-dated to 6/29, but you’ll have to talk to a supervisor at the activation center. This is a good post, but it’s just about two weeks too late.
ColsTiger – thanks – I had not realized that at all. Luckily, I did not get mine on iDay, so still have a ways to go …
tiger: what if you buy it in store then you are good right???
I always thought that if you buy online then you would get an email with a code to activate it…
jj – if you buy it at the Apple store from the Genius Bar, they can activate it today or tomorrow without any problem. If you buy online, you have to wait for it to be shipped to your and then activate. They don’t give you an emailed code. I’ve bought three AppleCare warranties online and all were handled the same way. Like I said, you can probably talk to a supervisor at the 1-800 number and get it backdated if you miss the 6/28 cutoff date, but it won’t let you activate online by yourself if you wait until 6/29. It would just save some headache if you could buy it at an Apple Store today or tomorrow and have it activated immediately.
