Featured iPhone Site: Revision 3 Internet TV

  rev3d

I’ve only recently discovered the Revision 3 site for internet TV – but have been enjoying it whole lot and getting hooked on several of its featured shows.  And I watch it almost exclusively on the mobile version of the site on the iPhone.

If you haven’t come across Revision 3 yet, it’s home to a cool collection of web TV shows – like The Digg Reel (best of Digg sort of compliations), the live Diggnation shows, Tekzilla for tech news, reviews and tips, The Totally Rad Show, and lots more.

The Revision 3 Mobile site, though not specifically designed for the iPhone, looks and runs great on the iPhone.  The layout is pretty basic – when you first hit the home page there will be a short list of featured episodes from a small number of shows, that seems to get rotated fairly often.

If none of the featured episodes appeal, you can easily click on an ‘All Shows’ link to check out a full listing of what’s available for your viewing pleasure …

Or you can check out the ‘Just Released’ list, or just do a search for a specific item you’re after.  I’ve mentioned this lots in the past, but I am still a big fan of big, easy buttons like those used on this site for some of the main navigation.

Once you select an individual show, you get a listing of that show’s episodes – five to a page.  Just tap on an episode to go to a page where you can choose to launch High / Low version of it, depending on what sort of connection you’re currently on.

The shows launch pretty quickly, run great on a WiFi connection, and look good in portrait or landscape mode.

You can mark an episode you like a lot to your Favorites folder, for easy finding and re-playing again …

Or choose to share an item with a friend …

Interesting that the share function here works via phone rather than email – not sure I like that much.

There is also an Inbox feature, but I have not figured out exactly what that does for you as yet.

One small complaint I have at the moment is that some show don’t seem to make it across to the mobile version as soon as they’re on the main site.  For instance, the Wine Library TV show is a very big new one that has recently come to Revision 3 on June 23rd, but there is no sign of it yet on the mobile version, even via a search.

Overall though, the Revision 3 site is a very good one for iPhone entertainment.  Lots of good shows to choose from, and a well-done site that makes it easy to find and enjoy the content …
